Are you on a waiting list for a new puppy, or is your puppy now born and you are counting the weeks and days until you pick him or her up? My goodness, it is so precious to have a new puppy!
I have been on waiting lists for months on end waiting for my turn to be advised that my name is now on the list for the next litter that is being planned. The excitement to know that at long last I can “see the light at the end of the tunnel” as the saying goes.

Then I go through the question, will the mum have only males or have only females, or not enough of each sex so that I can remain on this list for a new puppy? The excitement builds as the waiting time to know firstly, that there are puppies on the way and secondly, to know that when they are born, there are enough of each sex to fulfill the orders of the people waiting for this news.
I can confirm, from experience, I sigh with relief when I know that enough puppies have been born to fulfill my request. Sometimes people are prepared to change their mind and take whatever puppy is available, either a male puppy if not enough females are born, or vice versa.
When my female black Australian Kelpie, Mojo, was mated to another black Australian Kelpie through a breeding program I participated in at the time, a friend, we will call her Carol (not her real name), was so keen to have one of my girl’s puppies that she excitedly gave me a countdown of how many weeks, how many days there were until the puppies were born. It IS so precious to have a new puppy, especially when you are hoping for a particular puppy from a particular mother.
Alas, my friend was not on this waiting list, as there were other folk waiting for a puppy before her, however, we both quietly hoped that due to unforeseen circumstances, Carol would get one of Mojo’s babies.
The puppies were born, two black girls, and one chocolate brown lad. We were hoping for at least five puppies, but no, this was not to be at this time.
Two of the puppies were allotted to their new owners to be, one was in obeyance, as this particular owner was looking for a puppy that exhibited show quality characteristics. All puppies in this litter met these criteria, however, it was now a waiting game to see if one particular puppy stood out for this owner.
One particular puppy remained with the breeder until she was 10 weeks old as the prospective owner also had her eye on another litter that was born elsewhere. The day came for the decision to be made, was Mojo’s black girl going to become a “showgirl”.
I was still secretly hoping that somehow, against all odds, my friend would be the new mum for this puppy, however, this puppy would be in good hands wherever she was placed. I did not realise that Carol was also secretly hoping that this puppy would become a valued member of her own household, somehow.
It was a difficult decision for the prospective owner to choose which puppy to take, however, the lass from the other litter was chosen and Mojo’s black baby was then offered to another family waiting on the puppy list!
This particular family had decided to purchase a puppy from elsewhere as they had decided that they did not want to wait for another litter to be born, and were waiting for this new puppy to be old enough to take home.
My goodness, how circumstances can change! My prayers were answered for my friend, she was next on the list and was so excited to be offered Mojo’s puppy that both she and I were hoping would happen, so Carol was now able to raise this puppy as her precious bundle of joy! I cannot help but say, it is so precious to have a new puppy!
