Bringing home a new puppy is one of the most exciting and heartwarming experiences a pet lover can have. From the moment my furry friend stepped into our lives, it’s been an adventure filled with love, laughter, and a few challenges along the way! It is a fun event to look back to your journals headed “Puppy Diaries: Adventures with My New Furry Friend”.
Here’s a glimpse into our journey together, from introducing one of our Sheltie puppies to family and neighbours, to outings to the beach and our car rides together.
The day I brought my various puppies home was exciting. My family eagerly awaited the new addition, and when he or she finally arrived, everyone fell in love instantly.
The wagging tail and playful energy brought a new dynamic to our home.
We made sure to introduce our new pup slowly to everyone, allowing our pup to get used to new scents and sounds in a safe and calm environment.
Watching this youngun’ interact with others was fun; laughter filled my house as our new puppy chased after a toy for the first time.
Next, it was time to introduce our puppy to the immediate neighbourhood. With a small, friendly gathering in our home or yard, we let our neighbours meet our new addition in a controlled setting.
This not only helped our new addition to get used to new people but also provided an opportunity to start socialising early on.
Our puppy quickly became the star of the show, charming everyone with curious sniffs, licks, and those adorable puppy eyes.
After a long day of meeting new people, our puppy needed rest.
We made sure to provide a cozy, comfortable bed to relax and recharge the battery so to speak! Making sure you have a quiet and peaceful space for our puppy to sleep is essential for their development.
It’s important for puppies to have enough rest to grow and stay healthy, and please make it a priority to create this comforting environment.
Feeding our puppy the right food has been another important aspect of our journey.
I have researched lots of articles and research before I decided to feed a raw diet that provides all the necessary nutrients for growth.
Mealtime has become one of the favourite parts of the day, even if our puppy raises demands and barks to let me know that it is mealtime, I know that my puppy has the energy to play, learn, and explore the world around. Mind you I do gradually teach my puppy to wait for their food in my time, and not in their time of demanding!
Finding suitable toys for our puppy has been a fun adventure in itself.
I have discovered that my new puppy prefers soft, chewable toys that are easy to handle.
Toys not only keep my puppy entertained but also help with the teething phase. We rotate toys regularly to keep our puppy engaged and prevent boredom.
It’s important to choose toys that are safe and appropriate for a puppy’s size and chewing habits.
As our puppy started growing, we eagerly waited for the day we could take our first walk together. After consulting with our vet, we learned it was important to wait until all vaccinations were completed. Once ready, we introduced our new buddy to the collar and leash and took short walks around the block. It took a few tries for our pup to get used to the leash, but now, it’s all a fun adventure and our pup looks forward to our daily walks with tail-wagging excitement.
One of our most fun adventures so far has been our trip to the beach with one of my Sheltie puppies. I wasn’t sure how our puppy would react to the water, but as soon as the waves were spotted, our pup ran straight to the edge of the waves to investigate. It was fun watching the splashing around and chasing the waves. The beach has become one of our favourite places to visit, and it’s a great way for our new ball of fur to burn off energy while having fun.
At first, our puppy was a bit nervous about car rides, but with some patience and positive reinforcement, this has become an enjoyable outing. I started with short trips, gradually increasing the length to encourage acceptance.
Now, when the window is partly open our pup loves feeling the breeze. Car rides have become another opportunity for us to bond and explore new places together.
