What are your thoughts on why do dogs love humans more than dogs? It is an interesting question, isn’t it?
Is it only me who thinks that my dogs love me more than they love the other dogs they live with? I am sure that many other folk can agree about a dog’s love for his or her leader.

I put such an effort into my dog loving me unconditionally from the moment I introduce them to my household as my aim is to make them feel as welcome as possible and know that this is a safe place to be.
I keep them as close to me as possible, I spend time with this newcomer to gain their trust and acceptance of me as the person to check in with before making their own decisions. The decisions I am talking about here, are for example … they hear an unusual noise door in the neighbouring yard whilst I am out in the yard with them and look at me for guidance before they start barking at the fence.
If it is a noise whereby I am aware that my neighbour has ventured into their yard for whatever reason, I caution my dog with an uh-uh to not make a noise as they start heading towards the area where they heard the noise. As respect and understanding of me grows, my dogs will usually look at me to make sure what my approval rating is. When your best mate will listen to your voice you know the love they have for you. We all know a barking dog is not conducive to keeping our neighbourhood on an even keel, so it is up to you to keep the peace.
The more time you spend nurturing your dog, the more your dog will love you unconditionally. After all, you feed them, keep them with water, groom them, and take them for walks and outings so why wouldn’t they love you. If you have more than one dog in your home, the other dogs are unable to fill all of these needs.
Just the last paragraph answers perfectly why do dogs love humans more than dogs, don’t you think?
I get really chuffed when it is time for my dogs to come inside for the night and they seek out my company.
Mind you, over the years I have had “a rule” that my dogs were not allowed on the lounge, however having Australian Kelpies changed that! Kelpies have a habit of gazing at you with such a look on their faces that just melts you. So after covering up my lounge (ha-ha I said this would not happen either) my Kelpies are able to sit on certain lounge chairs with me.
I find it intriguing that even though there may be two dogs on the lounge with me, they both vie to be beside me, without being concerned that they could simply lie with each other.
So then one dog starts trying to outdo the other by getting undivided attention from me. If one nuzzles my hand, the other will sneak over and try a little harder, hoping to be the one who gets my full attention. It is a balancing act showing the same amount of love to each one so as not to cause any jealousy. They love to show and receive emotional comfort from you.
I encourage my dogs to be mates and scold them if they have a tiff with each other. They know the boundary limits.
And yes, there are those eyes that gaze at your lovingly. Their eyes become soft, their ears lower softly and they show full trust by gazing at your eyes directly. When your dog can make direct eye contact with you, that is then showing you their utmost love and respect.
Our dogs know when we are getting ready to go out, they know the signs. Different shoes, different clothes, different routine happening. Sometimes my dogs will express disappointment once they realise the outing is not for them and I have no issue in telling you that I soothe them with my words of “not this time, next time maybe”.
I can leave happily knowing that they will not carry on, as I have always stuck to the habit of not rushing to say hello to them when I return, even though I am busting to, as I do not want them to have separation anxiety, therefore I calmly walk inside and attend to my immediate chores before saying hello to them.
It does thrill me though, knowing they are so happy to see me back home, as I know they will listen for my return, the whole time I am away. Their wagging tails and happy faces tell it all, so why do dogs love humans more than dogs? They show it by leaving each other, even when playing together they will come and say hello to you as you are the absolute centre of their lives.
